Yesterday, Sunday 8 March was International Women’s Day 2020, which Aurion honoured with an all-staff morning tea to put gender equality in the spotlight and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
International Women’s Day (8th March each year) is a global day to raise awareness against bias and make a call to action to accelerate women’s equality. In 2020, the International Women’s Day campaign theme is #EachforEqual.
Andrew Michael, Aurion’s General Manager – Commercial, spoke about the history of International Women’s Day and association with the colour purple. He asked the group to think about how they will support #EachforEqual and do their bit to ensure that the future for women is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.
Aurion is encouraging staff to strike the #EachforEqual pose to show their support and motivate others on social media.
IWD 2020 should be of particular relevance to payroll professionals – according to the government’s Job Outlook career guidance website, 86% of payroll workers in Australia are female (compared to the average of 48%) and the ‘average’ payroll clerk (payroll worker, payroll professional) is 44 years (compared to the average of 40 years).
International Women’s Day on 8 March was adopted by the United Nations in 1975, although the date has been celebrated for well over a century, with the first International Women’s Day held in 1911, when more than a million people turned out to rallies in Europe.
